"Beautiful tone, beautiful heart" Dr. Shinichi Suzuki

Using music to build character and sensitivity in children

Music is one of the human kind's finest arts. DIAM wants to develop the gift of musicality in children, while building their character and sensitivity, enhancing their confidence and bringing the joy of music to their lives.

Musical skills are a known brain capacity enhancer, DIAM encourages its students to take AMEB style music examinations and graduating on Suzuki levels, to help the students challenge themselves and master their respective instruments. Music and arts can also teach humans to feel empathy, therefore DIAM supports yearly philanthropic performances by its students, because social awareness is something needed in our society and who better than children to practice it since their early age.
DIAM offers exciting extracurricular and curricular music programs for schools, one-on-one face-to-face and online tuition in Suzuki and traditional methods, including Early Childhood Music classes for students from 0-5 yrs old, in Singing, Piano, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Guitar (Classical and Electric), Bass, Drums, Violin and Cello. TESTIMONIALS

A personal story I want to share.

Rafael has recently been diagnosed with ADHD - Inattentive type. He struggles to focus in class (and in general!). That said, his teacher did comment that he will talk endlessly about guitar, music and soccer! But his paediatrician spoke to me quite frankly and said that perhaps LLV is not the right school to meet his needs. He suggested we try a 'mainstream' school.

I was able to say with confidence that Rafael was in a 'mainstream' school for two years and that he was miserable. He struggled. Even getting him to school was a challenge and he just didn't want to go on some days. Coming to LLV from year 2 has been life changing. He LOVES school. Why? Because of the music and the sport.

I talked to Rafael about possibly going back to a mainstream school to help with his routine and to manage his diagnosis. Rafael's immediate response was 'No way! I can't do a normal school band. I need to be in a rock band. LLV has the best band program. I don't want to do boring band like my friends are doing."

So there you have it. As a parent, I stand with his judgment. He sees his old friends and talks to them about what they are doing in band and he always comes away feeling more confident and cooler (and proud!) to be part of LLV and LLV's band program - especially under DIAM.

After yesterday, we will also be looking to move Raf's other private lesson to DIAM (currently he goes to Stormer Music in Roseville). This came off the back of talking to other parents in the auditorium waiting for Concert 2 to come on. Two other parents (with kids in different bands to Raf) both strongly recommended lessons and band groups with DIAM in Lane Cove. So we will be making inquiries with you directly, Diego. Possibly for Sunday afternoon rock band? But we will explore other options in a separate email to your DIAM account so as not to confuse things.

By far Raf's best music experience has been performing at Lazy Bones Lounge. He still talks endlessly about that and the opportunity to perform there. But adding to that was being able to perform in the school auditorium with an orchestra and also being able to perform outside at school yesterday. He loved it. His only criticism was that he wanted to perform more songs (as he was still nervous for most of the one song but if there was another, he said his nerves would have abated and he would have powered into a second song with more confidence and gusto!).

So thank you again.

I wanted to thank you for putting on such a wonderful concert yesterday at LLV.

I am so grateful that Caitlin had such a positive experience for her first solo performance. I can see how proud she feels having accomplished such a big milestone and it has encouraged her to want to perform in the future.

The exposure to the orchestra was wonderful and ignited her love for music further and I am so warmed to see her find something she feels passionate about.

Thank you both for the time, care and dedication, we are very grateful.

Kind regards
Gabrielle Scro

"We feel very lucky to have found Diego as our children’s music teacher. Diego is an incredibly patient and passionate teacher. Our son started with guitar and moved to piano, his little sister has just started piano too - they both LOVE their lessons with Diego. After a year with Diego my 6 year old is reading music, composing his own songs and enthusiastically performing for the whole family. His little sister (just turned 4!) within a few weeks is already playing several simple songs. Diego is amazing in person and over Zoom. He has a very approachable, caring and fun style with the kids. Highly recommended!"

"He brings an abundance of energy and love to learning guitar, clearly through his teaching methods (Suzuki method and Traditional method), expertise and guidance.  He often adapts his teaching style to meet the individual learning needs of Daniel and James, showing flexibility in his approach.  Diego makes lessons fun and enjoyable, while providing opportunities for the boys to learn rock songs on the electric guitar"

"My son Conner Beris who attends Cranbrook School has been a guitar student of Diego Idarraga since 2010. Diego has taught my son for over 6 years. I have been fortunate  enough to experience what difference a great music tutor makes, as I have two children. My daughter who attends Kambala,  has had  many private music tutors for violin and none have measured up to the experience my son has had with Diego. The failing of good music tutors at Kambala have resulted in my daughter quitting violin after 9 years of playing, which is a tremendous shame. However when we compared the outstanding teaching ability and wonderful rapport that Diego offers his students it was evident that his teaching is invaluable and unique.
Conner has a passion for guitar and has become a skilled confident player, thanks to Diego’s tuition. Diego taught Conner how to read music and play classical guitar for 6 years. He prepared him for examinations and for guitar school recitals. Apart from teaching the course criteria he also went out of his way to expose Conner to contemporary music as well, which inspired Conner as he could relate to the music.
It is however Diego’s unique teaching method that made every lesson enjoyable for our son. He is not only patient and understanding but has a wonderful rapport that enables him to offer advice and criticism  in an encouraging positive manner, which many teachers are unable to do and only can aspire too. I know as I have taught in the Department Of Education in the Primary sector for over 16 years, so feel I am experienced enough to acknowledge Diego’s outstanding teaching ability.
Diego is extremely conscientious and his true passion for music is reflected by the way he organised numerous Guitar recitals out of school for Conner to perform and experience. One event in particular will stay with Conner for ever, Diego organised for Conner to perform at the Sydney Opera House, this was an amazing experience and opportunity for him.
Finally the input that Diego has had on our son has been incredible, not only through his  music tuition but also in the development of Conners confidence and academia. Conner loves music, is confident and passionate and was just rewarded an Academic scholarship at Cranbrook for Senior School. I respect and appreciate Diego’s professionalism and expertise as it is extremely valuable and unique in our community . Yours Faithfully Mersina Beris" Beris Family
